KUALA LUMPUR, Tanjung Bruas Port Sdn Bhd (TBPSB) has no plans to turn Tanjung Bruas Port (TBP) into a sea air cargo hub at this time, according to the Ministry of Transport (MoT). In a written response published on the Parliament website on Tuesday, the MoT stated that TBPSB, the port operator at TBP, does not handle any import or export cargoes via airports (Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Subang, and Senai). "As the main gateway for import and export to Melaka, TBP has great potential to expand and become a main multi-purpose port for Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, and northern Johor," the ministry said. The MoT was replying to a question from Bakri Jamaluddin (PN-Tangga Batu), who asked the ministry to clarify TBP's role in Melaka as a sea air cargo hub and the effectiveness of the container feeder service to Port Klang (PKL). TBP launched its container feeder service for the TBP-PKL-TBP route on Jan 3, 2024, in collaboration with the shipping company CMA CGM, targeting furniture importers and exporters . The container feeder service is still in a six-month trial phase with port calls scheduled for twice a month and has the potential to be increased to four port calls per month with a handling capacity of 200 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) per month. "From January to March 2024, the container feeder service handled exports totalling 194 TEUs and import of 220 TEUs," said the MOT. Source: BERNAMA News Agency
