Manila: The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) is urging technical and vocational (tech-voc) training institutions to register and offer micro-credential courses. "Courses registered or recognized by TESDA have a corresponding certification, and are stackable, which can form a complete national certification," TESDA Public Information Office Executive Director Floramel Joy Songsong told the Philippine News Agency on Tuesday.

According to Philippines News Agency, TESDA Secretary Jose Francisco Benitez emphasized the benefits of micro-credentialing, stating that it creates modular and stackable learning pathways that are faster, more flexible, and responsive to industry needs. "This approach ensures that Filipinos can continuously upgrade their skills and remain competitive in a rapidly changing job market," he said in a statement.

Micro-credential courses, which have shorter durations, are ideal for individuals looking to upskill or secure employment. Language courses are cited as an example, with many overseas employment opportunities requiring proficiency in certain languages. As of now, TESDA has registered 335 micro-credential courses offered by 167 institutions nationwide.

Benitez further highlighted the broader impact of micro-credential courses, noting that they support individual growth, stimulate innovation, generate jobs, and strengthen industries crucial for the country's economic recovery. By expanding micro-credential offerings, TESDA aims to bridge skills gaps across priority sectors.

Institutions interested in offering these courses are encouraged to coordinate with TESDA's regional or provincial offices to understand the registration process and requirements.
