SERDANG, The fishing skills of three generations of a family brought them luck as they were crowned among the winners in the Fun Fishing Competition held in conjunction with the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Exhibition (MAHA) 2024 here today. In the competition organised by the National Farmers Organisation (NAFAS), 82-year-old Siew Kam You, his son Yew Choe, 52, and grandson Choon Hong, 28, won 10th, eighth, and fourth place respectively. Sharing his joy, Choon Hong said his success was due to the fishing skills honed by his grandfather and father after nearly 20 years of fishing together. He added that fishing has become a favourite activity for the three of them, who are from Shah Alam, as a way to spend time together and strengthen their bond. 'This is the third fishing competition we've participated in at MAHA, and in the last edition, I was the champion,' he told reporters. The fourth edition of the competition was launched by Farmers Organisation Authority chairman Datuk Mahf uz Omar, while the prizes were handed over by NAFAS Board of Directors chairman Datuk Zamri Yaakob, and NAFAS general manager Muhammad Faris Arriffin. A total of 120 participants competed for cash prizes amounting to RM2,000 and 15 consolation prizes. Meanwhile, Mohd Helmi Hasbulla, 22, from Kajang, was announced as the champion with a catch of a 950-gramme 'patin' fish. The private sector employee took home a cash prize of RM1,000 and a hamper. 'This is the second time I've entered a fishing competition organised by MAHA and, Alhamdulillah, this time I was declared the champion. 'I hope NAFAS will continue to hold competitions like this in the future,' he said. Source: BERNAMA News Agency
