Manila: Large parts of Luzon and western sections of the Visayas are set to experience occasional to heavy rains due to three tropical depressions, including 'Pilandok,' which has slightly intensified as it meanders over the Philippine Sea east of extreme northern Luzon, the weather bureau reported on Monday. According to Philippines News Agency, in its 5 a.m. advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) stated that Pilandok is almost stationary and was located 1,120 kilometers east of extreme northern Luzon. It has maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph. Pilandok, along with two other tropical depressions, is expected to enhance the southwest monsoon, locally known as "habagat," as it remains a tropical depression within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). It is forecast to maintain its strength over the next 24 hours and may briefly intensify into a tropical storm by Tuesday, potentially exiting the PA R by Wednesday evening or early Thursday morning. Additionally, PAGASA is monitoring a low pressure area (LPA) that has redeveloped into tropical depression Saudel (formerly Obet) outside PAR, located 1,180 km west of extreme northern Luzon. Saudel has maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph while moving southward at 15 kph. Another LPA has developed into a tropical depression, positioned 485 km west-northwest of Itbayat, Batanes, with maximum sustained winds of 45 kph and gustiness of up to 55 kph, moving north-northeastward at 15 kph. Regions such as Ilocos, Abra, Benguet, Bataan, Zambales, Tarlac, and Pampanga will experience monsoon rains due to the southwest monsoon. Occasional rains will prevail over the rest of the Cordillera Administrative Region, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Nueva Vizcaya, Nueva Ecija, and Bulacan, also due to habagat. Metro Manila, Calabarzon, the rest of Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Aklan, and Antique will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms caused by the southwest monsoon. The rest of Luzon, Negros Island Region, and the rest of Western Visayas will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to "habagat." Localized thunderstorms are expected over Mindanao and the rest of Visayas. PAGASA has issued a warning to residents about possible flash floods or landslides due to heavy to intense rains triggered by the southwest monsoon. Mariners of small seacraft, including all types of motorbancas, are advised not to venture out to sea over the western seaboard of Luzon. Meanwhile, the weather bureau noted a low pressure area (LPA) spotted 3,105 km east of Eastern Visayas, which currently has 'no direct effect' on the country.
