Three Weather Systems Impact Philippines with Rains and Winds

Manila: Three weather systems - the northeast monsoon or "amihan," the easterlies, and the shear line - are affecting the country Wednesday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said. According to Philippines News Agency, PAGASA's 4 a.m. bulletin indicated that the Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, and Dinagat Islands will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms due to the shear line. The agency specifically noted that Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, and Dinagat Islands could expect moderate to heavy rainfall ranging from 50 to 100 millimeters in the next 24 hours. The bureau warned that localized flooding is possible, especially in urbanized, low-lying, or river-adjacent areas, while landslides are highly possible in regions prone to such events. Due to the shear line, Palawan and the rest of the Visayas will also experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. Meanwhile, the rest of Mindanao will see cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms caused by the easterlies. In contrast, the northeast monsoon will bring cold weather with cloudy skies and rains to Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera Administrative Region, and Aurora. Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains, also attributed to the northeast monsoon. Additionally, rough to very rough coastal waters, driven by strong to gale northeast winds, are expected over Northern Luzon and the eastern section of Central Luzon. The temperature across the affected regions is expected to range between 20.4°C and 29.8°C.
