The latest remark of Vice President Sara Duterte on exhuming the remains of former President Ferdinand E. Marcos, Sr., and disposing of the same into the West Philippine Sea is 'totally unbecoming," according to Senator Francis Tolentino. During his quick visit here for the distribution of financial assistance to poor families in San Jose district on Wednesday, he said the statement of the second highest official in the country desecrated the dead. "The statement is not good to hear considering our Filipino culture. The words spoken are not reflective of the culture and religious foundation of the Filipinos,' Tolentino told reporters. VP Duterte, during a press interview, recalled that she told presidential sister Senator Imee Marcos that if attacks against her would not stop, she would dig up the remains of the late president and dump them into the West Philippine Sea. Marcos Sr.'s remains were buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City in 2016 during the administration of then p resident Rodrigo Duterte, the Vice President's father. In 2019, Tolentino ran for senator under the Hugpong ng Pagbabago regional political party after receiving endorsement from the Dutertes. He was also a member of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino, the political party of the former President Duterte, but left in August 2024, citing his different stance on the issue of the West Philippine Sea.
