Tondo Blast Victims Receive Free Hospital Treatment

Tondo: The six persons injured in an air compressor explosion in Tondo received free medical treatment at the Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center (JRRMMC).

According to Philippines News Agency, the full coverage of their medical expenses is in accordance with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive under the 'Bayad na Bill Mo' program, also known as the zero balance billing policy. The initiative ensures that patients under basic accommodation in the DOH hospitals are not charged out-of-pocket expenses for their treatment.

Three of the victims have undergone surgery and are recovering in the surgical intensive care unit. A fourth patient, who sustained facial injuries, is being treated in the surgical ward and is scheduled for an operation. Among the most seriously injured is a 14-year-old boy, the youngest victim of the explosion. He suffered a traumatic brain injury, multiple fractures in both legs, severe damage to his right arm, and abrasions from his head down to his chest.

The two remaining victims sustained minor injuries and have since been discharged from the hospital. The DOH said the zero balance billing policy aims to provide financial protection to Filipinos, particularly during unexpected medical emergencies.

According to the Manila Police District's Explosive Ordnance Division, the area of explosion has been secured as investigators continue to examine the cause of the incident last Sunday.
