Manila: Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla announced on Friday that tracker teams have been deployed to execute the arrest warrants issued by Sandiganbayan against resigned Ako Bicol Party-list Representative Zaldy Co and 17 others from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and Sunwest Corporation. The warrants are linked to allegedly irregular infrastructure projects in Oriental Mindoro.

According to Philippines News Agency, Remulla detailed in a radio interview that the tracker teams are actively visiting the homes and known addresses of all individuals involved. "In anticipation of that naka tracker team na kami sa kanilang lahat. As we speak pinupuntahan na ng mga teams namin yung mga all those involved, all their homes, all their known addresses," Remulla stated.

He emphasized the proactive stance of the teams, noting, "We are always one step ahead. We anticipate what's ahead... We have tracker teams since Tuesday." Remulla also mentioned the need to review video surveillance of Co's office and residences to determine his location within the Philippines. "Otherwise, the court will have to apply for a red notice and cancellation of passport," he added.

Acting Philippine National Police Chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. conveyed that the police are collaborating closely with Sandiganbayan and other relevant agencies to ensure the lawful execution of the warrants. He reassured the public about the adherence to due process, guaranteeing that the rights of all involved individuals will be fully upheld under the law.

Nartatez also urged public trust in institutional integrity, stating, "We call on the public to continue placing trust in our institutions as we carry out our duties with integrity, respect for the rule of law, and commitment to justice."

The Office of the Ombudsman filed graft charges against Co and several DPWH and Sunwest Corp. officials on Tuesday. These charges are in connection with a PHP289-million flood control project in Oriental Mindoro.
