The toll regulatory board (trb) on thursday assured motorists that those using radio frequency identification (rfid) will be reimbursed for charges incurred during the free toll period along the pulilan-san fernando stretch of the north luzon expressway (nlex). :an Fernando stretch of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX).
According to Philippines News Agency, TRB Spokesperson Julius Corpuz explained in a radio interview over Radyo Pilipinas that RFID users will initially be charged the regular distance-based rate when passing through the toll plazas. "Kung kayo ay naka-RFID, initially ma-charge kayo ng distance that you traveled per regular fee (If you are using RFID, you will initially be charged the distance you traveled at the regular fee)," Corpuz stated.
Corpuz further mentioned that the toll operator will conduct a backroom computation to return the amount to motorists' accounts. "Iba-backroom computation po yan, operator, nang sa ganon maibalik ang halagang binanggit ko kanina sa kanilang accounts, toll fee na hindi nila sapat (The operator will do a backroom computation so that the amount I mentioned earlier will be returned to their accounts, the toll fee that they should not have paid)," he added. This refund mechanism is intended to ensure that motorists do not end up paying for what should be free travel during the waiver period.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) previously secured free toll for vehicles traveling between Pulilan, Bulacan and San Fernando, Pampanga starting Wednesday due to heavy traffic caused by flooding at Tulaoc Bridge in San Simon, Pampanga. Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez coordinated with NLEX Corp. President Luis Re±on to waive the toll fees for all vehicle classes on the Pulilan-San Fernando route.
The regular toll for Class 1 vehicles traveling from Pulilan to San Fernando is PHP113; for Class 2 vehicles, PHP281; and for Class 3 vehicles, PHP338. The free toll will remain in effect until conditions along NLEX return to normal.
Additionally, the DOTr, through the TRB, has directed NLEX Corp. to implement a faster and more efficient warning system, including direct SMS or text messages and other accessible platforms, for motorists during heavy rains and flooding.
