Manila: Trkiye has expressed its willingness to assist the Philippine Navy (PN) in future training programs for submarine and surface ship operations. Turkish Ambassador to the Philippines, Niyazi Evren Akyol, conveyed this commitment to PN chief Vice Admiral Jose Ma. Ambrosio Ezpeleta during his official visit to the Naval Station Jose Andrada, Roxas Boulevard, Manila.
According to Philippines News Agency, Ambassador Akyol pledged Trkiye's readiness to support future training and education programs in partnership with the PN. The Turkish diplomat also extended his congratulations to Vice Admiral Ezpeleta on his recent appointment as PN chief and discussed the upcoming 17th International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF) 2025, scheduled to take place in July at the Istanbul Trade Center.
Ambassador Akyol emphasized Trkiye's longstanding friendship with the Philippines, highlighting its investment in the country's stability and support for its sovereignty. He stated, "Trkiye is an old friend, heavily invested in the stability of the Philippines, and a strong supporter of its sovereignty. We are ready to do our best to further strengthen the Philippines' defense of its rights and sovereignty."
Vice Admiral Ezpeleta expressed his appreciation for the enduring diplomatic ties between the Philippines and Trkiye, which have spanned 76 years. He praised Trkiye's continued support, particularly in enhancing the Philippines' naval capabilities, and assured a commitment to sustained coordination and collaboration with the Turkish government.
The engagement between the two nations reaffirmed their mutual interest in deepening defense cooperation and exploring further opportunities in maritime security, interoperability, and capacity development.
