Manila: The low pressure area that developed into a tropical depression on Wednesday afternoon has a slim chance of affecting the country's weather condition, a forecaster said. The tropical depression was last tracked 3,000 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao, outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
According to Philippines News Agency, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration weather specialist Benison Estareja stated that since the cyclone is still far from the Philippine landmass, it is unlikely to have a direct effect on the weather. Estareja noted that generally fair weather will continue across the country, although isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms are possible.
Estareja explained that the cyclone could potentially enter PAR by Thursday and would be named "Caloy" if it does. He mentioned the possibility of the cyclone reaching the severe tropical storm or even the typhoon category within the next six days. However, once inside PAR, the cyclone is forecast to recurve and head towards Japan. Estareja encouraged the public to monitor updates for any possible changes in the forecast.
