Washington: US President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that a "large scale strike" had been successfully executed against Venezuela, resulting in the capture and removal of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife from the country. Trump's statement was made via his Truth Social platform, where he claimed the operation was carried out with U.S. law enforcement assistance.
According to Philippines News Agency, Trump provided limited information in a brief written statement, indicating that more details would be disclosed later. He also revealed plans for a news conference at 11 a.m. at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida to discuss the operation further.
In a parallel development, Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez expressed uncertainty about Maduro's current location. Speaking on state television, Rodriguez stated, "We are unaware of the whereabouts of President Maduro." Her comments came in response to Trump's announcement regarding the "large scale strike" and the subsequent capture of Maduro and his wife.
Rodriguez further demanded that Trump provide "proof of life of President Maduro" and condemned what she described as a "brutal and bloody attack." She urged the activation of citizen security forces to defend the Venezuelan people, emphasizing the need for unity in the face of the situation.
