Tsunami Warning Due to Davao Oriental Quake Lifted

Davao city: The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) lifted the tsunami warning on Friday afternoon following a magnitude 7.4 earthquake in Davao Oriental.

According to Philippines News Agency, the agency had earlier issued the warning, recommending the immediate evacuation of residents in coastal communities across Davao Oriental, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Leyte, Southern Leyte, and Eastern Samar. The precaution came after the Tandag Surigao del Sur sea level monitoring station recorded a tsunami wave height of approximately 30 cm at 10:20 a.m.

Phivolcs announced the cancellation of the tsunami warning at 1:43 p.m., stating that any effects related to the warning had largely passed.
