Two Arrested and PHP 17.7 Million Worth of Marijuana Seized in Benguet Police Operation

Benguet: Two individuals were apprehended and PHP 17.7 million worth of marijuana was confiscated following a hot pursuit operation by Benguet police, as reported by the Police Regional Office-Cordillera Administrative Region (PRO-CAR) on Wednesday.

According to Philippines News Agency, PRO-CAR director Brig. Gen. Ericson Dilag confirmed that the seized items comprised 127 tubular packs of dried marijuana leaves weighing 127 kilograms, valued at PHP 15.24 million. Additionally, a yellow sack containing 10.27 kilograms of dried marijuana worth PHP 1.23 million and a garbage bag with 10.4 kilograms of dried marijuana leaves and stalks worth PHP 1.25 million were also confiscated.

The 1st Benguet Police Mobile Force Company (PMFC) reported that officers were conducting a checkpoint at Sitio Gakian, Barangay Gambang, Bakun on Tuesday morning. During the operation, two suspects attempted to evade inspection, which led to a pursuit and their subsequent arrest.

The suspects, aged 25 and 24, are residents of Paranaque City. They are now facing charges for violating Republic Act No. 9165, known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. The confiscated marijuana will be turned over to the relevant authorities for proper handling and disposal.
