Manila: Two weather systems will cause rains in parts of the country on Wednesday, the weather bureau said. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affecting southern Mindanao will bring scattered rains and thunderstorms across Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.
According to Philippines News Agency, rains triggered by the northeast monsoon, locally known as "amihan," will prevail in Cagayan Valley, Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Kalinga, and Aurora. PAGASA has advised that moderate to heavy rains in these areas may result in flash floods or landslides.
The northeast monsoon is also expected to cause isolated light rains in the rest of the Ilocos Region, the Cordillera Administrative Region, and Central Luzon. Meanwhile, the rest of the country will experience isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA has also forecasted moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough coastal waters across Northern Luzon. In other regions, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas.
Furthermore, PAGASA noted that a low pressure area (LPA) located outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has a high potential to develop into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours. As of 2 a.m., the LPA was positioned 1,210 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon. Should this LPA develop into a cyclone and enter PAR, it will be designated as Wilma, PAGASA added.
