Manila: Typhoon Inday, known internationally as Bavi, has slightly weakened, with maximum sustained winds now at 165 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness reaching up to 205 kph, the weather bureau reported Thursday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) noted in its 11 a.m. bulletin that Typhoon Inday was last observed 865 kilometers east of Northern Luzon, advancing northwestward at a speed of 15 kph. The weather system has prompted the issuance of a gale-force wind forecast for Batanes, where wind signal no. 2 is currently in effect.

Regions under wind signal no. 1, including Cagayan with Babuyan Islands, Isabela, the northeastern portion of Quirino, Apayao, the northern portion of Abra, Kalinga, and the eastern portions of Mountain Province and Ifugao, are expected to experience strong winds. The advisory also extends to Ilocos Norte, the northern portion of Aurora, and the northern and central portions of Catanduanes.

Furthermore, the enhanced southwest monsoon, or habagat, combined with the periphery of Typhoon Inday, is anticipated to bring strong to gale-force gusts across much of the country. A gale warning remains in place over the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon, as well as the eastern seaboard of Visayas.

PAGASA has also warned of heavy rainfall across Batanes due to Inday's influence. Additionally, the enhanced southwest monsoon is expected to cause significant rainfall in regions such as Occidental Mindoro, Antique, Negros Occidental, Zamboanga del Sur, Lanao del Norte, and Lanao del Sur.
