Typhoon Nika Makes Landfall in Aurora, Affecting Northern Luzon.

Aurora: Typhoon Nika, internationally known as Toraji, has made landfall over Dilasag, Aurora, bringing strong winds and heavy rains across Northern Luzon. The typhoon was located in the vicinity of San Agustin, Isabela as of 10 a.m. on Monday, as reported by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). According to Philippines News Agency, the typhoon is packing maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts reaching up to 180 kilometers per hour. PAGASA forecaster Chris Perez has urged residents in areas under tropical cyclone wind signal (TCWS) Nos. 1 to 4 to remain indoors and coordinate with local government units for safety precautions. Areas under TCWS No. 4 include the northernmost portion of Aurora, central and southern portions of Isabela, Kalinga, Mountain Province, parts of Ifugao, Abra, and Ilocos Sur. Regions under TCWS No. 3 include part of Aurora, northern Quirino, northeastern Nueva Vizcaya, parts of Isabela, southw estern Cagayan, southern Apayao, parts of Abra, Ifugao, northern Benguet, and southern Ilocos Norte. Meanwhile, TCWS No. 2 covers parts of Cagayan, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Apayao, Benguet, Ilocos Norte, La Union, northeastern Pangasinan, central Aurora, and northern Nueva Ecija. Areas under TCWS No. 1 include Babuyan Islands, mainland Cagayan, parts of Pangasinan, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Pampanga, Tarlac, Zambales, Metro Manila, Rizal, Laguna, and Quezon. Perez also highlighted the possibility of intense to torrential rains in Aurora, Isabela, Cagayan, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Benguet, Ifugao, Mountain Province, Kalinga, and Apayao, with heavy to intense rains expected in Abra, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and La Union. Additionally, moderate to heavy rains are anticipated in Quezon, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, and Pangasinan. The risk of flooding and landslides remains high, especially in areas that have already experienced heavy rains in the past days. A moderate to high risk of storm surge is also forecasted for the next 48 hours in low-lying or exposed coastal areas of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Isabela, Zambales, Aurora, Quezon including Polillo Islands, Camarines Norte, and Camarines Sur. Gale warnings have been issued for the eastern seaboard of Luzon and the northern and western seaboards of Northern Luzon, making sea travel risky for all types of vessels. Perez cautioned that areas under TCWS Nos. 1 to 4 are unsuitable for maritime activity.
