UK to Assist Iloilo City in Tackling Climate Change and Mental Health

Iloilo city: The United Kingdom (UK) government has committed to helping Iloilo City address climate change and mental health issues, as announced by Mayor Raisa Tre±as.

According to Philippines News Agency, Mayor Tre±as expressed her appreciation for the support during a courtesy visit from Lloyd Cameron, Economic and Climate Counselor of the British Embassy-Manila, on July 4. During their meeting, Tre±as shared her focus on health, education, and social services, highlighting the city's ongoing initiatives.

The mayor noted that Iloilo City has had a mental health program in place since 2022. This year, the program will receive additional support from the Ateneo School of Medicine and the UK government. Tre±as mentioned that the collaboration will last for two years and will include documenting health centers and other systems related to mental health.

In a related development, Counselor Cameron visited the office of Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. last week. During this visit, a memorandum of understanding was signed, marking a commitment to deliver high-impact adaptation projects. These projects aim to address the effects of climate change and strengthen the resilience of the rice sector in the province.
