Unbeaten UST dominates Ateneo in SSL volleyball

Manila: University of Santo Tomas clobbered Ateneo de Manila University, 25-11, 25-20, 25-17, to remain unbeaten in the 2024 Shakey's Super League (SSL) Collegiate Pre-Season Championship at Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila on Sunday. Wing spiker Angeline Poyos delivered 17 points, all from attacks, as the Tigresses claimed their fifth victory. Jonna Chris Perdido contributed nine points, including six in the first set, while Regina Grace Perdido scored six of her eight points in the third. Margaret Altea had three blocks to finish with seven points for UST, which went on an 11-4 run to gain the upperhand at 14-10 in the third frame. Ateneo moved to within 14-16, but UST fought back to wrap up the match after one hour and 25 minutes. Alexis Ciarra Miner led the Lady Eagles with eight points on five attacks, two blocks and one ace. UST will face Far Eastern University on Friday while Ateneo takes on University of the Philippines on Saturday. In the other game, University of the East outplayed College o f Saint Benilde, 25-19, 25-18, 25-23. Casiey Monique Dongallo scored 16 points on 15 attacks and one blocks in leading the Lady Warriors to their fourth win. KC Cepeda and Jelaica Faye Gajero added seven points each while Riza Nograles had five points in the one hour and 21-minute encounter.
