Baguio: More than 1,000 junior and senior high school students from across Pangasinan participated in a day of cultural and academic contests Friday organized by University of the Philippines students. The University of the Philippines Subol Society Baguio chapter held "Padunungan" at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center, featuring events in the Pangasinan and Iloko languages.

According to Philippines News Agency, the event included a quiz show focusing on Pangasinan heritage and facts, as shared by project head Fritz Pasaoa in an interview. The contests comprised essay writing, poetry, spoken word, extemporaneous speaking, group dance, and singing, all aimed at promoting the province's culture, history, and language.

Students also engaged in a mock policy proposal contest under the theme "Dismantling Unfreedoms Through Education." Notably, the winning paper from this contest will be forwarded to local governments and agencies for consideration.

Pasaoa emphasized that the event aims to uplift the confidence, talents, and excellence of Pangasinan youth through learning and inspiration.
