Bern: The Swiss Foreign Ministry announced early Friday that the US-Iran talks scheduled for the day were canceled. "The discussion at Brgenstock will not take place as planned today," the ministry announced in a statement. "Consequently, the meeting announced yesterday is cancelled."
According to Philippines News Agency, the ministry further elaborated that the planned talks have been postponed. "The planned talks between the US, Iran, Qatar and Pakistan have been postponed. Switzerland remains ready to facilitate these talks," it added.
The announcement followed closely after the White House disclosed that US Vice President JD Vance would not be departing for Switzerland on Thursday. The decision was attributed to unresolved logistical details concerning the anticipated technical talks with Iran.
On Wednesday evening, a significant development occurred when US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian electronically signed the 'Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.' This agreement aims to initiate the end of the war instigated by Washington and Tel Aviv against Iran on February 28.
Under the terms outlined in the agreement, Iran is set to immediately reopen the strategically essential Strait of Hormuz. Concurrently, the United States will lift its naval blockade, as confirmed by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who signed the document as a mediator.
