La union: Super Typhoon Uwan (international name Fung-Wong) has caused an initial PHP816 million worth of damage to agriculture and infrastructure in La Union province, based on the report of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) as of Thursday afternoon. Most of the damage in agriculture was reported on fishing gears, banca, high-value crops such as eggplant, palay, tomato, ampalaya, and fish stocks including malaga, lapu-lapu, and bangus (milkfish).
According to Philippines News Agency, the damage comprises PHP46.7 million in agriculture and PHP770 million in infrastructure. Initial reports indicate that 367 farmers have been affected, with 102.31 hectares of farmland wrecked and 43.69 hectares damaged. The estimated cost of damage to livestock was PHP172,100, mainly affecting goats and chickens. Infrastructure damage predominantly involved schools, river walls, multi-purpose halls, and trading centers.
The typhoon also damaged a total of 3,245 houses, with 170 being destroyed. Power restoration efforts have reached 259 out of 505 barangays, or 51.29 percent, in areas covered by the La Union Electric Cooperative, Inc. (LUELCO), and 82 out of 190 barangays, or 60.50 percent, in areas covered by the La Union Electric Co. (LUECO).
The PDRRMO reported that 38,913 families, or 122,371 individuals, were affected across the municipalities of Luna, Bauang, Caba, Bangar, Sto Tomas, San Juan, Rosario, Bacnotan, Sudipen, Pugo, Bagulin, San Gabriel, Agoo, Aringay, Balaoan, Burgos, Santol towns, and San Fernando City. Of these, 6,732 families, or 20,188 individuals, are in 460 evacuation centers, while 4,819 families, or 14,350 individuals, have received aid outside evacuation centers. Two injuries were recorded in the province due to the weather disturbance.
