Antipolo City: Guido van der Valk of the Netherlands demonstrated composure on the final hole to secure a one-stroke victory in the ICTSI Forest Hills Classic. The 45-year-old golfer marked a score of 70, culminating in a 12-under 272 total, and claimed the PHP430,000 top purse.
According to Philippines News Agency, van der Valk shared insights into his performance, stating, "No. 18 isn't the easiest hole -- there's a lot of trouble out there. But I hit a good drive and followed it up with a really nice second shot. That helped me settle down a bit and close it out."
In the competition, van der Valk matched Aidric Chan's impressive 31 on the front nine and extended his lead with a birdie on the 10th. However, bogeys on Nos. 12, 15, and 17 opened the door for competitors Keanu Jahns, Angelo Que, and Reymon Jaraula to narrow the gap. "I started off a bit iffy with my approach shots but still managed to save pars. From No. 5 onwards, though, I really found my rhythm and went on a run with four straight birdies," van der Valk explained. He admitted to playing defensively on the back nine, leading to challenges, yet remained resilient.
Jahns delivered an impressive back nine, achieving five birdies in eight holes and closing with a birdie for a 66, finishing at 11-under 273. Que, who dominated the earlier legs of the Philippine Golf Tour, fired a 64 with seven birdies, also finishing one shot shy of a tie.
Van der Valk had previously tied for fourth at Pradera Verde in February and was runner-up to Que at Eagle Ridge in April. Jahns and Que shared the combined second and third prizes, totaling PHP430,000, while Jaraula took fourth place with a 274 after a 72.
In other results, Jeffren Lumbo shot a 66 for solo fifth at 275. Chan, despite a strong start, faltered with a 40 on the back nine, settling for sixth at 276 following a 71. Fidel Concepcion posted a 67 to claim seventh at 278, followed by Russel Bautista and Carl Corpus. Clyde Mondilla, Atsushi Ueda, and Justin Quiban rounded out the top ten.
