Manila: Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) President and General Manager Jose Arnulfo Veloso on Friday welcomed the Office of the Ombudsman's order lifting his preventive suspension, saying he is ready to return to work.

According to Philippines News Agency, Veloso stated that the Ombudsman's September 17 decision allows him to resume his duties after being suspended in July along with other GSIS officials. Veloso emphasized that the findings indicate there is insufficient ground to believe his continued service would impede the ongoing investigation, viewing it as a recognition of his professionalism and integrity during his tenure.

Veloso reiterated his commitment to acting in good faith and within the policies, procedures, and legal boundaries governing the pension fund. He expressed that his current focus is on safeguarding and enhancing the GSIS fund.

Veloso highlighted the importance of securing the long-term financial stability of public servants and their families, in alignment with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s emphasis on GSIS's mission. He expressed his dedication to continuing this mission with humility and resolve as a public servant.

The suspension, which began on July 11, involved Veloso and six other officials who were placed under a six-month preventive suspension without pay. This action was related to a PHP1.4-billion stock purchase from Alternergy, a renewable energy holding company. The suspension order mentioned potential grave misconduct, neglect of duty, and violations of GSIS investment rules, suggesting that their continued presence in office could affect the investigation.
