Vico Sotto Backs Call to Probe Firms Behind Flood Control Projects

Pasig city: Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto supports the call by Iloilo City Mayor Raisa Tre±as to investigate major flood control projects in the city allegedly handled by two top-ranked contractors mentioned by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in a press conference.

According to Philippines News Agency, Sotto, in a Facebook post on Tuesday, shared Tre±as's statement that four flood control projects in Iloilo City listed under St. Timothy Construction Corp. and Alpha and Omega General Contractor and Development Corp. are 'non-functional, have caused flooding, or are, in some cases, practically non-existent.' The projects, worth around PHP570 million, were implemented by the Iloilo City District Engineering Office (ICDEO). Each project costs around PHP120 to PHP150 million.

Sotto highlighted, 'As per Iloilo City Mayor Raisa Tre±as, may problema rin ang 4 flood control projects ng Discaya companies sa kanila (the four flood control projects of Discaya companies there have problems as well).' He further urged accountability for those responsible, stating, 'Kung gusto natin ng mas maayos na kinabukasan para sa ating bayan, panagutin natin ang mga taong nasa likod nito. Putulin na natin ang siklong ito (If we want a better future for our nation, let us hold accountable the people behind this. Let us break this cycle).'

Earlier, Tre±as expressed her full support for Marcos's ongoing investigation into the top 15 contractors handling flood control projects nationwide. The Iloilo City government will cooperate fully and provide all information necessary to aid the process, she said. Three projects worth PHP425 million were listed under St. Timothy Construction Corp. and one under Alpha and Omega General Contractor and Development Corp. worth PHP150 million.

Tre±as emphasized that the Ilonggos have the right to know if there are delays, deficiencies, or any misuse of public funds. She also assured that those responsible must be held to account without fear or favor.
