Vigan Establishes Complaint Desk to Address Tricycle Driver Misconduct

Vigan: The city government here has set up a help desk where commuters can lodge their complaints against abusive tricycle drivers and operators. The complaint desk, established by the Public Safety and Traffic Management Office, is located at the Vigan City Hall Legislative Building. It also has a dedicated hotline number, 0917-103-2784, for easier access.

According to Philippines News Agency, Briana Fenis, a student, and Glenn de Peralta, a tour guide, welcomed the initiative. Fenis noted that many tricycle drivers selectively pick passengers and inquire about payment amounts despite existing fare regulations. She highlighted issues where some drivers do not provide change, particularly to tourists. De Peralta echoed these sentiments, stating that some drivers exploit visitors by not adhering to the city's standard fare.

The city's move to establish the complaint desk aims to ensure tricycle services are reliable and honest. This initiative is part of City Ordinance 24-55, which enacts the Vigan City Tricycle Management Code, focusing on addressing overcharging and improving customer service. Councilor Glendale Benzon expressed hope that the complaint desk will help resolve commuter concerns and provide tricycle drivers with a platform to defend themselves.

Vigan City, an important tourist destination in the Ilocos Region, has 3,488 tricycles organized under 42 tricycle operators and drivers associations.
