Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s initiative to advance two significant railway projects is set to not only reduce travel time for commuters in Bulacan but also foster job creation and attract new investments in the province, according to Senator Joel Villanueva.

According to Philippines News Agency, Villanueva expressed his support for Marcos' update on the progress of the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) and Metro Rail Transit Line 7 (MRT-7). The senator highlighted that these projects would bring much-needed relief to residents who have long depended on congested highways for their commutes to Metro Manila.

In his recent State of the Nation Address, President Marcos detailed that NSCR trains are expected to commence operations between Valenzuela and Malolos next year, with plans to extend the line to Clark by the end of his term. Additionally, 12 MRT-7 stations are slated to open next year, eventually extending the line to San Jose del Monte, Bulacan.

The two railway systems are projected to accommodate nearly one million passengers daily. Villanueva emphasized that efficient rail travel would not only save commuters time but also attract businesses such as logistics hubs, call centers, commercial establishments, and housing developments along the railway corridor.

Villanueva, who co-authored the Accelerated and Reformed Right-of-Way (ARROW) Act, noted that the law has been instrumental in resolving acquisition issues that previously delayed such projects. He pledged to continue collaborating with the Department of Transportation, local government units in Bulacan, and Congress to ensure these projects stay on track and deliver benefits to commuters and local communities.
