Basilan: Basilan Governor Mujiv Hataman led the launch of the Prevention Against Violent Extremism (PAVE) 2.0 Kaelluman (Livelihood) Program in this city, marking an important step in the area's commitment to sustainable peace and development. More than 400 people attended the program launch, including former violent extremists (FVEs), security officials, religious leaders, and local government officials.

According to Philippines News Agency, the program, anchored on the theme 'Itaguyod ang Masaganang Buhay,' aims to strengthen community resilience and prevent violent extremism through economic empowerment and community engagement. The activity also included the signing of a pledge of commitment from various agencies, religious groups, and community leaders, reaffirming their dedication to peace and development in Basilan.

Governor Hataman expressed the significance of empowering communities with sustainable livelihoods, highlighting that it promotes peace and ensures that residents can enjoy a prosperous life. The event included testimonies from former extremists Muhsir Saib and Nurhasan Jamiri, who shared their personal stories of change and the positive influence of government support.

Following the testimonies, Hataman led the distribution of PHP3,000 cash assistance to each FVE, providing them with resources to start their own livelihood projects. PAVE has been a cornerstone of Basilan's community-driven approach to peace-building. The program's origin dates back to Hataman's time as governor of the defunct Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), where he supported community-based projects to address the root causes of conflict and foster reconciliation.

Hataman emphasized that sustainable peace relies on stable, inclusive, and dignified livelihoods, and PAVE 2.0 Kaelluman emphasizes livelihood as a key strategy to prevent extremism by offering economic opportunities to vulnerable communities.
