Cebu: The Philippine Navy (PN) announced that its naval units stationed in the Visayas have executed a series of operations from January 12 to 13. These missions are part of the efforts to bolster security in anticipation of the nation's hosting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit this year.

According to Philippines News Agency, the operations involved the landing craft BRP Manobo (LC-297) and the multi-purpose attack craft (MPAC)-482, both of which are assigned to Naval Forces Central (NFC). The missions included "sealift mission and maritime security patrols" during the specified dates. LC-297 was tasked with conducting sealift missions in Bohol, focusing on the safe transport of military personnel, rolling cargoes, and military equipment intended for the ASEAN Summit 2026. The PN highlighted that the Command's meticulous planning and oversight ensured the mission's efficiency and adherence to safety protocols.

In parallel, MPAC-482 performed maritime security patrol operations, establishing a naval presence en route to Captain Veloso Pier, Naval Base Rafael Ramos, Lapu-Lapu City. The PN noted the crew's coordinated efforts, which facilitated smooth operations and reinforced the Navy's visibility in strategic locations.

These missions underscore the PN and NFC's commitment to supporting transport and maritime security needs in preparation for the various activities and engagements associated with the ASEAN Summit 2026 across the Visayas region. The 48th ASEAN Leaders' Summit and Related Summits are scheduled in Cebu from May 8 to 9, followed by the 49th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits from November 10 to 12, set at the newly-renovated Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City.

Leading up to the summits, Cebu will also host the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Retreat (AMM) from January 25 to 29, and the ASEAN Tourism Forum from January 26 to 30.
