The second edition of Walk The Doc International Documentary Festival will take place in Langkawi from Aug 1 to 3, focusing on nature, environment and travel.

The organiser, Walkabout Asia, said in a statement that the event seeks out films that document interesting events, amazing people and intriguing things and how humankind cares or should care about the planet.

It said Langkawi was selected as the venue as it is the perfect home for the festival to gather filmmakers who recognise the importance and impact of the environment on future world development.

The festival, supported by Think City and Tourism Malaysia, will have an international panel of experts from Japan (NHK), Indonesia (TVRI), China (CGTN), Italy (RAI) and Malaysia (RTM), among others, to hold workshops and dialogues creating a strong network that cultivates an impactful learning experience, it added.

Meanwhile, Walkabout Asia managing director Nurashikin Zaharuddin told Bernama recently that since May 29, her team has been conducting its mentorship free masterclass programme called Small Story Big Impact in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Penang and Kuantan to boost the creation of documentary films of nature, environment, culture, heritage and people.

“The programme is intended as a platform for young factual content creators (documentarists) by mentoring them on how to market their content in the mainstream media and other platforms,” she said, adding that the masterclass was also aimed at bringing more positive stories within the Malaysian documentary platform to captivate audiences all over the world.

The masterclass workshop includes a mentorship programme, in which participants are to pitch story ideas where only eight finalists are chosen and given a fund of RM5,000 to complete a micro-documentary within one and a half months.

According to Nurashikin, the best documentary will be awarded the ‘Outstanding Video Award’ at the festival.
