Weeklong PDEA Operations Confiscate PHP77.78-Million in Illegal Drugs, 85 Arrested

Manila: Authorities confiscated PHP77.78 million worth of illegal drugs and arrested 85 suspects in nationwide operations conducted from May 14 to 21, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said on Sunday.

According to Philippines News Agency, PDEA Director General Isagani Nerez stated that the agency carried out 78 operations across the country during this period. "This week's accomplishment report is a testament to the unwavering commitment, dedication, and bravery of our operatives on the ground," Nerez noted in a statement.

The operations involved intercepting illegal drug shipments at airports, dismantling drug dens, and eradicating marijuana plantations in remote areas. Nerez emphasized that no part of the country is beyond the reach of law enforcement, and the agency is committed to intensifying anti-drug operations until every community is free from the threat of illegal drugs.

During the operations, authorities seized 9,596.85 grams of shabu, 12,257.32 grams of dried marijuana leaves, 41,520 fully grown marijuana plants, and 12,120 marijuana seedlings believed to be intended for distribution to multiple drug networks nationwide. The arrests included 58 individuals identified as drug pushers, 11 as possessors, and five as alleged drug den operators.

All suspects involved in illegal drug activities will face charges under Republic Act 9165, known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. The PDEA confirmed that the confiscated items are now in government custody for forensic examination and will be used as evidence in upcoming court proceedings.
