WorldSkills ASEAN Manila 2025 to Highlight Traditional and Emerging Skills

Manila: The 14th WorldSkills ASEAN Manila 2025, which the Philippines is set to host from August 26-28, will highlight a range of traditional and emerging skills, according to Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Undersecretary Nelly Dillera. The event, held at the World Trade Center, aims to display the capabilities of technical and vocational (tech-voc) schools across ASEAN, emphasizing the skills that enterprises and industries currently seek.

According to Philippines News Agency, the competition will cover six skill areas with 32 specific skills, including information and communications technology (ICT) with a focus on cybersecurity, information network cabling, internet of things, and IT network systems. Dillera also mentioned emerging skills in manufacturing and engineering technology, such as robotics and industrial automation, as well as creative arts and fashion, which now incorporate 3D and digital art technologies.

Dillera highlighted that traditional skills are also evolving with technological integration, citing examples like construction, carpentry, electrical installations, and cabinet making. Skill areas in transportation and logistics, along with social and personal services such as hairdressing, cooking, hotel reception, and restaurant services, remain part of the competition.

The event is expected to draw 300 delegates and their companions. In collaboration with the Department of Tourism, tours are being organized to showcase what the Philippines offers, aiming to provide visitors, including teachers and supporters, insight into the region's offerings.
