Manila: The Philippines secured a gold medal in wrestling, courtesy of Gabriel Thomas Dinette, at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand.
According to Philippines News Agency, Dinette defeated Singapore's Weng Luen Gary Chow, 4-0, and then Thailand's Chiranuwat Chamnanjan, 4-0, in the men's 86kg freestyle division at the Pacific Park Shopping Center Sriracha in Chonburi. Earlier this year, he won the 86kg and the Greco-Roman 82kg divisions in the Philippine Wrestling National Championships.
Hayden Tyler Ancheta and Ronil Tubog bagged silver medals on the final day of competition. Other medalists in freestyle were Arian Carpio (women's 62kg) and Aliah Rose Gavalez (women's 50kg), silver; and Rea Cervantes (women's 53kg) and Michael Andre Dargani (men's 74kg), bronze. Jason Baucas (77kg) and Callum Roberts (97kg) bagged the bronze medals in the Greco-Roman category.
