Manila: Yellow alert is still in place for the Visayas grid for Wednesday, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., due to limited capacity.
According to Philippines News Agency, the grid's available capacity is around 2,481 megawatts (MW) while peak demand is expected to reach 2,428MW.
NGCP issues a yellow alert when a grid's operating margin is not enough to meet contingency requirements. This situation arises as Units 1 and 2 of the Therma Visayas Inc. remain unavailable, and electricity imports from Mindanao are still low because of forced outage of several coal-fired power plants and high demand.
NGCP said a total of 11 power plants are on forced outage this month alone, and 20 others have not been working for as long as five years. Additionally, 12 power plants are operating at derated capacities, resulting in a total 826.5MW loss to the system.
