Youth to Hold Anti-Corruption Prayer Rally at Manila Cathedral

Manila: Young Filipinos are set to hold an anti-corruption community prayer rally in front of the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, more popularly known as the Manila Cathedral in Intramuros, Manila next week.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Manila Cathedral announced via a social media post the holding of the event dubbed as the "Memorare: A Day of Lament and Prayer of Young People" at 4 p.m. on Oct. 31. The post emphasized the growing awareness and engagement among young people in the call for transparency, accountability, and good governance, encouraging participants to gather in prayer and discernment, while seeking the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Queen of the Holy Rosary, for the country.

Organizers have urged participants in the Church-led activity to wear white clothes and/or white ribbons. The event is the latest in a series of mass protest actions hosted by various groups and organizations amid controversies surrounding flood control projects.

The first rally, known as the "Trillion Peso March," took place on Sept. 21, drawing participants from several civil society organizations, religious groups, celebrities, and ordinary citizens at Rizal Park in Manila City and the People Power Monument in Quezon City. In addition, a weekly "White Friday Protest" has recently been launched in some parts of the country by certain civil society groups, demanding accountability from government officials implicated in questionable infrastructure projects.
