Manila: Mayor Khymer Olaso has announced the suspension of classes at all levels in both public and private schools due to adverse weather conditions. The decision was made in response to a forecast from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) indicating that the city would experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers influenced by the southwest monsoon.

According to Philippines News Agency, Mayor Olaso emphasized the importance of staying vigilant and advised residents to monitor weather updates through official and verified channels to ensure their safety. PAGASA's forecast predicts that the Zamboanga Peninsula, along with Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, will experience cloudy skies accompanied by scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. The agency warned that these weather conditions could lead to flash floods or landslides due to moderate to occasionally heavy rains.

Reports received by the mayor's office indicated flooding in several downtown streets, including the Bagsakan Center, a key trading hub for farm produce. In response, Mayor Olaso urged the public to contact the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office through its hotline numbers, available online, in case of emergencies. He also advised residents to avoid swimming in rivers to prevent accidents from potential flash floods.

In a related development, Dr. Elmeir Jade Apolinario, chief of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, instructed barangay disaster risk reduction and management councils to closely monitor their areas to help ensure the safety of residents.
