Zamboanga Police Deploy 1.4K Officers for Safe Holy Week Observance

Zamboanga: The Police Regional Office (PRO) 9 has deployed 1,420 personnel across the region to ensure a peaceful and secure observance of Holy Week, a top police official stated. Brig. Gen. Roel Rodolfo, PRO-9 director, emphasized that the intensified security operation aims to safeguard devotees, tourists, and the general public participating in the religious and cultural activities scheduled throughout the Lenten season.

According to Philippines News Agency, Brig. Gen. Rodolfo mentioned that police officers are strategically stationed in key areas, including churches, major thoroughfares, transport terminals, commercial centers, and other gathering places. The PRO-9 personnel are reinforced by 129 members of auxiliary units and 79 individuals from advocacy support groups, who will assist in traffic management, public information dissemination, and crowd control at various events.

Rodolfo further noted that PRO-9 has enhanced visibility patrols, intensified intelligence monitoring efforts, and activated Police Assistance Desks (PADs) at strategic convergence points across the entire Zamboanga Peninsula. He urged the public to remain vigilant, report any suspicious activities to the authorities, and actively support the peace and order initiatives being implemented.

In Zamboanga City, a mobile command center has been established at the Climaco Freedom Park in Mount Abong-Abong, Barangay Pasonanca. This hub is equipped with advanced closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras for real-time surveillance and comprehensive assessment of on-site security measures.

Mount Abong-Abong traditionally draws thousands of Catholic devotees who participate in the Holy Week Stations of the Cross rituals held at the park. Local authorities have assured the public that all necessary precautions are being taken to ensure the safety and security of the expected large number of devotees visiting the area for their religious observances.
