Zamboanga: Authorities have confiscated PHP45.2 million worth of contraband and illegal drugs during relentless law enforcement operations in the Zamboanga Peninsula in September, an official announced Saturday.
According to Philippines News Agency, Brig. Gen. Eleazar Matta, director of Police Regional Office (PRO) 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula), stated that through 18 coordinated operations across the region, they seized PHP41.8 million worth of smuggled cigarettes and arrested seven individuals involved in smuggling activities. Matta commended the successful operations and emphasized the importance of ongoing anti-smuggling efforts in the region. He highlighted that the accomplishments demonstrate the dedication of PRO-9 personnel in protecting the region's economic borders and upholding the rule of law.
'We will continue to work closely with the Bureau of Customs and other government agencies to enhance our intelligence-led patrols and dismantle smuggling syndicates operating in the area,' Matta said.
Meanwhile, PRO-9 anti-narcotics agents confiscated about 510.8 grams of suspected shabu, with an estimated street value of PHP3.4 million, and detained 190 individuals involved in illegal drug activities across the region. Matta credited the successes of the 173 coordinated operations in the anti-drug campaign to teamwork, actionable intelligence, and committed personnel. 'The successful outcomes of these efforts reflect our strong resolve to protect communities from illegal drugs and armed criminality,' he said.
He urged the public to stay vigilant and to partner with authorities by reporting suspicious activities to help ensure safety throughout the region.
