Manila: Police authorities in Zamboanga Sibugay province continue to strengthen security initiatives in learning institutions through their municipal stations, an official said Tuesday. On Tuesday morning, personnel from the Ipil Municipal Police Station provided security at Campus A and Campus B of Zamboanga Sibugay National High School in Barangay Pangi, Ipil, the province's capital.
According to Philippines News Agency, Col. Barnard Danie Dasugo, Zamboanga Sibugay police director, stated that beyond security inspections, officers also talked to students and reminded them to practice respect, kindness, and discipline. He emphasized that these sustained activities aim not only to enhance campus security but also to cultivate a culture of responsibility and mutual respect among students.
"This initiative will continue until we instill a strong culture of discipline among our learners. Our objective is not only to secure our schools but also to encourage positive behavior and strengthen the partnership among the police, school officials, parents, and the community," Dasugo said in a statement. He noted that officers encouraged students to remain vigilant and to immediately report any bullying, violence, or other concerning behavior to school authorities, enabling timely intervention and appropriate guidance.
The provincial police office began deploying officers in schools following the June 22 shooting at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City, Leyte, which left three students dead and 20 others injured. Dasugo mentioned that police visibility in schools across Zamboanga Sibugay has been increased as part of their commitment to ensuring a safe learning environment.
"Our students are our most valuable assets. We call on teachers, parents, and the entire community to work hand in hand with the Philippine National Police to ensure that our schools remain safe, peaceful, and free from violence, so every child can learn without fear," he said. Zamboanga Sibugay province comprises 16 municipalities, split into two congressional districts.
