Ilocos norte: Indigent and financially disadvantaged patients in Ilocos Norte expressed gratitude towards President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for efforts to enhance access to affordable healthcare through financial assistance for eligible patients in government hospitals.

According to Philippines News Agency, the zero billing program has been a crucial support for many, including 71-year-old Teresita Macalma from Barangay Sungadan, Paoay, who was able to replace her dual-chamber pacemaker battery at the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center in Batac City. Her daughter-in-law, Rodalyn Macalma, shared their relief and gratitude, noting that the program covered the estimated PHP1 million hospitalization bill.

Similarly, Sherlyn Nicolas, a resident of San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte, revealed that she saved approximately PHP97,000 in hospital expenses during her admission for a surgical operation at the Batac hospital. Nicolas highlighted the importance of the program, which allowed her to address other essential needs during her recovery.

Other beneficiaries, such as EJ Cari±o and Mariano Borromeo Jr. from Barangay 6, Piddig, expressed that the assistance enabled them to concentrate on their recovery without the burden of hospital bills.

Ilocos Norte health officials noted that the zero billing program is available in accredited public hospitals as part of the administration's initiative to fortify the healthcare system and provide financial protection to vulnerable and indigent patients. This initiative aligns with broader reforms to expand access to quality and affordable health services under the country's universal healthcare program.

In his 5th State of the Nation Address, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. reiterated the government's dedication to ensuring that Filipinos, particularly those from disadvantaged sectors, have access to essential healthcare services without financial strain. He pledged continued efforts to enhance healthcare delivery and expand support programs for patients in need.

Beneficiaries expressed hope that the program would continue to assist more Filipinos, ensuring that quality healthcare remains accessible and affordable for those in need.
