The Bureau of Customs-Port of Cagayan de Oro (BOC-CDO) destroyed some 1,700 cases of smuggled cigarettes worth PHP50 million in Bukidnon.

In a statement Thursday, the bureau said the cases containing 85,000 reams of “Two Moon,” “Mighty,” “Marvel” and “Royal” brands, were condemned inside the facility of Terra Cycliq Corporation in Barangay Mantibugao in Manolo Fortich town on Wednesday.

The shipment consigned to Denian Dry Goods Trading arrived at the Mindanao Container Terminal (MCT) in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental from China on Sept. 18, 2020, and was declared as office furniture.

The illegal shipments were destroyed using road rollers and backhoes.

Upon examination by a Customs examiner, together with operatives of Customs Intelligence Investigative Service (CIIS) CDO Field Station and Enforcement and Security Service (ESS) CDO District, the shipment in two containers was revealed to contain cigarettes.

“This apprehension is still a result of our continuous intelligence sharing with other government agencies and the international intelligence community to ensure our border protection against smuggling,” said Oliver Valienta, chief of the CIIS CDO Field Station.

The consignee will be facing charges for violating Section 1400 (Misdeclaration of Goods Description) of Republic Act 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
