The city government has tapped student leaders to intensify its online campaign against illegal drugs during Wednesday’s launching here of the “Droga ay Iwasan, Labanan at Baklasin (DILAAB)- Kidapawan”.

Mayor Joseph Evangelista said the program aims to step up the involvement of the young leaders in the fight against illegal drugs in support of the campaign of the local government unit (LGU).

During the launch, the 13 student leaders – Andriebonn Dimaano, Ian Jay Sapitula, Kayezyl Lacia, Mary Flor Avellanoza, Mark Anthony Aviles, Arch Benzal, Olivia Perez Ojeda, Louis Ann Alquiza, Jomarie Gonzales, Ace Benedict Acosta, Krizza Castro, Rodelo Balaso, and Rey Alvin Lumayon – made their oath before the mayor in a simple ceremony.

The student leaders are enrolled in online courses at various colleges here. Schools in the city are currently closed for a semestral break.

Evangelista urged the young leaders to influence friends and schoolmates online to shun involvement in illegal drug activities.

“Rest assured that the LGU is supporting you 100 percent in this campaign,” he said.

He also assured the students the city government will continue its commitment to combat illegal drugs in support of national government agencies such as the Department of Health; the Department of the Interior and Local Government; the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, and the Philippine National Police.

The student leaders are expected to conduct forums, either online or small face-to-face gatherings, to discuss the significance of the campaign and the effects of illegal drug use.

DILAAB is another initiative of the city government aside from the “Balik Pangarap” program that helped fully rehabilitate 1,067 illegal drug users in this city since 2016.
