Medical center to boost Surigao Sur health services

The conversion of the Bislig District Hospital into a medical center will further bolster the medical infrastructure and health services in the area, especially in the second district of Surigao del Sur.

In a statement Thursday, Surigao del Sur 2nd District Rep. Johnny Pimentel welcomed the approval of the House Committees on Health and Appropriation of House Bill 9837 that seeks to convert the district hospital in Bislig City into a medical center.

“HB 9837 converting Bislig District Hospital into a Medical Center has been approved by the Committees on Health and Appropriations in the House of Representatives,” Pimentel said.

The bill, authored by Pimentel, was submitted to the two committees last July 20 and was approved on Thursday. It was filed last August 20, 2019.

In his explanatory note, Pimentel emphasized the increasing demand of the people in the area for hospital rooms, modern medical facilities, and additional health care services.

From the current 50, the bed capacity of the hospital will increase to 200 once its conversion into a medical center is enacted into law.

As a medical center, Pimentel said its management will be handed over to the Department of Health.

The hiring of more health workers and personnel will also be assured to commensurate the increase of the bed capacity of the center, he added.
