Davao city: Aiming to bridge the digital divide, the Department of Information and Communications Technology-Davao Region (DICT-11) shared Friday that a total of 1,548 SIM (subscriber identity module) cards have been distributed to schools in Davao del Sur and Davao Occidental. On Aug. 19, DICT-Davao del Sur distributed 617 SIM cards to Jose F. Lanoza Elementary School and Bulacan Elementary School in Malalag town.
According to Philippines News Agency, the initiative extends beyond mere connectivity, as parents were also given an orientation on Cybersecurity for Digital Parenting. This program promotes safer and more responsible digital practices for children and families. On Aug. 12 to 14, DICT Davao Occidental provided connectivity kits to key educational institutions.
In addition to distributing SIM cards, the DICT team facilitated immediate on-site SIM card registration. This ensured that beneficiaries could activate and use their connectivity kits immediately. The 931 beneficiaries were New Argao National High School, Jack Harvey Elementary School, Pedro Geverola Lucero Elementary School, and Tingolo Integrated School.
To support digital learning, each SIM card includes a 25gb monthly data allocation. This provides students and educators with reliable access to online learning platforms, digital research materials, and skill-development tools.
