Manila: Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ma. Cristina Roque expressed confidence that export growth will increase further, citing gains from new free trade agreements (FTAs) and local business support.

According to Philippines News Agency, Roque emphasized the commitment of the Marcos administration to business and entrepreneurial growth during her speech at the National Exporters' Fair held at SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City. She highlighted the government's focus on strengthening stakeholder ties, pursuing additional FTAs, and boosting core export drivers like electronics as pivotal strategies.

"For the Marcos admin(istration), of course, the free trade agreements. Once we conclude all of those, that's a win for the export industry. So, we need to push it," Roque stated during her address.

While Roque did not provide specific figures on the potential growth of exports this year, she acknowledged the challenges posed by the ongoing Middle East crisis, which could impact projections. Government data indicates that Philippine export growth averaged an annual increase of 10.6 percent from January to May 2026, totaling USD37.87 billion. This follows a record-high 15.3-percent expansion to USD84.48 billion last year.

"Every shipment that leaves our ports brings vital revenue to our country and fuels job creations, strengthens our domestic industry, and builds a truly resilient economy," she remarked, emphasizing the global acceptance of Philippine products.

Roque urged stakeholders to seize the opportunities presented by the current administration and work collaboratively to achieve the set goals. The National Exporters' Fair, which she inaugurated, features 200 businesses and runs until Sunday, providing a platform for micro, small, and medium enterprises to showcase their offerings.

She reiterated the DTI's commitment to creating nationwide venues, such as trade fairs, to support and promote local businesses.
