Tagaytay: Close to 400 gymnasts from 12 countries are competing in the 10th Aero Gymnastics Asian Championships, which kicks off Wednesday at Tagaytay CT Velodrome. The tournament is organized by the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) and sanctioned by the Asian Gymnastics Union.
According to Philippines News Agency, the event carries the theme 'Leap, Dance, One Asia,' and promises to be a festival symbolizing harmony, unity, and camaraderie among Asian aerobic gymnasts. GAP President Cynthia Carrion highlighted the uniqueness and memorability of holding the championships in Tagaytay, especially at the reconfigured Tagaytay CT Velodrome.
The velodrome, certified by the UCI (international cycling federation), was modified to include three competition floors and a 3,000-seat gallery for fans. A VIP box has been set up for honored guests to view the athletes' performances, showcasing their artistry and athleticism.
Podium finishers will receive medals spotlighting Taal Lake and Volcano, with mascots 'Bughaw' and 'Lila' adding to the event's appeal. Philippine Sports Commission Chair Patrick Gregorio emphasized the opportunity to boost local tourism through such international events, promoting Tagaytay's natural and man-made attractions.
Famous tourist spots in Tagaytay include the People's Park in the Sky, the Shrine of Our Lady, Mother of Fair Love, and the Picnic Grove. Gregorio also mentioned the Mahogany Beef Market, where visitors can enjoy bulalo, a Filipino comfort food.
Tagaytay City offers a compact and cool tourist experience, and organizers are hopeful that athletes and officials will leave with fond memories of their time spent there.
