11 BIFF Extremists Surrender in Maguindanao Sur

Maguindanao del sur: Eleven members of the lawless Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) voluntarily surrendered to military authorities in Maguindanao del Sur, an Army official said. Lt. Col. Michael Allah Eugenio, commander of the Army's 90th Infantry Battalion (90IB), stated that the surrenderers, exhausted from evading the relentless operations of the 90IB, laid down their guns and accepted reconciliation.

According to Philippines News Agency, the BIFF members turned in 12 assorted high-powered firearms as evidence of their determination to end violent extremism, which they realized was leading them nowhere. The members surrendered at the 90IB headquarters in Datu Saudi Ampatuan town. Lt. Col. Eugenio emphasized that the surrender was a result of increased community engagement by 90IB troopers, who convinced the extremists that peace is the best option.

The surrenderers are set to be enrolled in the Enhanced Local Armed Conflict program and the 'Tulong ng Gobyernong Nagmamalasakit (TUGON)' program of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. Eugenio urged other extremists still in the field to follow suit and take advantage of the government's peace offer.
