Midsayap: The province launched the Kalivungan Festival 2025 and its 111th founding anniversary on Tuesday, showcasing its rich cultural heritage. During her speech at the opening ceremony, Governor Emmylou Tali±o-Mendoza highlighted that the celebration is a moment to honor the province's history, culture, and its unity as one people.
According to Philippines News Agency, with the theme 'Cotabato Province @ 111: Malasakit at Serbisyong Totoo. Diwang Kalivungan, Diwang Cotabato,' the weeklong celebration, which runs until Sept. 1, will feature the true spirit of being a Cotabate±o. Governor Mendoza emphasized the province's progress, stating, 'We can see the fruits of our efforts, which have now brought our province to be one of the most recognized local government units.'
The Kalivungan Festival serves as a celebration of origin, harvest, and indigenous people, marking an important anniversary in the province. As part of the festival's opening events, a drum and lyre competition took place at the provincial capital grounds. The municipality of Carmen claimed victory this year, with Aleosan and Magpet taking the second and third places, respectively.
In addition to the cultural festivities, Governor Mendoza led the inauguration of Yaman ng Cotabato: Travel and Trade Expo. This expo highlights the province's wealth and potential, particularly in agriculture and tourism, which are identified as key drivers of economic development. She expressed pride in unveiling the achievements in these sectors.
The festival's schedule includes various events, with the street dancing competition being the main culmination activity, eagerly anticipated by participants and spectators alike.
