Butuan city: The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) - Caraga Region has provided PHP3.6 million in livelihood grants to 12 Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (PAMANA) Livelihood Program Associations (PLPAs) from eight barangays in Butuan City. The grants are aimed at giving residents opportunities to build sustainable enterprises and strengthen their communities.
According to Philippines News Agency, each association received PHP300,000 to establish ventures ranging from consumer stores and rice trading to chicken egg production and agricultural and veterinary supplies. DSWD-Caraga Assistant Director for Operations Jean Paul S. Parajes, speaking on behalf of Director Mari-Flor A. Dollaga during the turnover ceremony, highlighted that the initiative underscores the agency's commitment to peace and development.
"These livelihood projects are not just financial assistance; they are investments in communities, designed to empower organizations and sustain local enterprises," Parajes stated. On the same occasion, PLPA representative Sherlyn B. Simbajon voiced the beneficiaries' pledge to manage the grants responsibly and partner with the government in community development.
"We will strive to be responsible leaders and members of our associations, and faithful partners of the government in implementing this program," Simbajon said. She also expressed gratitude to the government, through the regional social welfare office, for trusting the PLPAs, not only as beneficiaries but also as partners in building communities.
The beneficiaries signed a pledge of commitment following the turnover of the projects, vowing to sustain their enterprises, strengthen their organizations, and contribute to peace and development in Butuan City. The turnover of the grants and certificates of accreditation of the PLPAs was facilitated at the Kalayaan Hall at the headquarters of the 402nd Infantry Brigade (402Bde) in Bancasi, Butuan City. The event was witnessed by officials and representatives of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU), the 402Bde, and the 23rd Infantry Battalion.
