Albay: A 12-hour power interruption is scheduled to affect parts of Albay on Saturday, announced by the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP). This power outage will impact several towns within the 3rd District that are served by the Albay Electric Cooperative (Aleco).
According to Philippines News Agency, Joyce Balancio, NGCP lead specialist for government relations and regional affairs, stated that the brownout is set to occur from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on July 26. This scheduled interruption is part of maintenance and preventive measures carried out every five years to test the metering point equipment used in the Ligao-Polangui 69 kilovolt (kV) line.
Balancio explained that the metering equipment includes transformers and lightning arresters, aimed at ensuring the transmission line operates normally and preventing future power outages in parts of Albay. In coordination with NGCP, Aleco is also set to undertake activities such as massive line clearing and hot spot correction during the same period.
Aleco public information officer Anj Galero mentioned in a message to the Philippine News Agency that the power outage will affect the towns of Polangui, Libon, and portions of Oas and Ligao, all connected to the Polangui substation. Galero emphasized the importance of conducting parallel activities to avoid scheduling separate interruptions in the future.
